Answers to your questions...

What time does the venue open?

The ticket booth for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival opens one hour before performance and closes 15 minutes after the start of the performance. Festival staff will have tables, lawn chairs, and concessions available starting at 6 p.m. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday - Thursday; 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The venue is also open for Theatre for Young People performances every Wednesday and Saturday during the summer season. The Festival is closed on Mondays.

Where do I park?

Ewing Cultural Center – parking is FREE directly across Emerson Street at St. John's Lutheran Church (set your GPS for: 1617 E. Emerson, Bloomington, Illinois).

Where can I drop off one of my party who has limited mobility?

Persons with disabilities have access to handicapped parking at St John's Lutheran Church. If they wish, they may use the drop off point at the corner of Towanda and Emerson located at the main entrance of the Ewing Cultural Center. Please call the ticket office in advance so a staff member can assist you.

What happens if it is too hot or rains?

Due to the unpredictability of Central Illinois weather, we will not make an early cancellation decision prior to 5pm on the day of a performance. At 5pm, we will post on our website whether we will be canceling the show or moving forward with the performance as planned.

In the case of rain during the performance, every effort will be made to complete the show, even playing through light showers. Should any performance be rained out before the first intermission, patrons have 2 business days to exchange their ticket(s) for another performance. If a performance is stopped after the first intermission, the evening will be considered complete and NO ticket exchanges will be made.

How long are the performances?

Our performances will not exceed two & a half hours on the stage (we promise!). This does not include intermission.

How old do my children need to be to attend?

Family members of all ages are welcome! We find that most children ages eight and over are attentive throughout our performances.

Are the actors students?

The Illinois Shakespeare Festival hires professional actors from across the country. As part of our educational mission through Illinois State University, the Festival also hires 12 acting interns and 10 production interns in the company.

What about dinner?

We have the best picnic spots in town! You are always welcome to bring your own food and drink to the Festival... but to make your life easier, we have food and drinks on-site including a great selection of beer and wine, snacks and ice cream. Dinners can be purchased from our food truck vendors (Healthy in a Hurry, Curbside Grillin' The Dinner Bell, or Oogies) serving the festival every night at Ewing Cultural Center! You may also choose to pre-order meals from Kelly's Bakery and Cafe on Tuesdays through Sundays. See the 'meals' section for more information.
